Northern Cape_De Aar
De Aar the third largest town in the Northern Cape is centrally located on the main railway line between Johannesburg and Cape Town and Namibie . The junction was the second most important railway junction in South Africa. The name De Aar refers to the underground water supply coming from 68 boreholes in the surrounding area of the town. We visit the House of Olive Sshreiner a famous author and feminist. Northern Cape_Burgerville and Deelfontein
Burgerville was established February 1907 with lots of underground water to relief De Aars water shortage it was decided to buy the whole town and a ghost town was born.The story of Deelfontein south of De Aar on the railway track to Cape Town. During the Anglo Boer War Deelfontein was established as a Imperial Yeomary Hospital. Today there is only a facade left. What a pity that the owners of the property demolished the hotel

Hanover halfway house between Gauteng and Cape Town. The former owner asked that the proposed town be called Hanover as his ancestors came from the German city . Walk through town and discover old furrows and historic buildings. Trappies Koppie in town was the first Astronomical Observatory in South Africa later transferred to Sutherland.The steps on Trappies Koppie are being build by Charles Beere and convicts of the local jail. In the cemetery there is a memorial dated back to the Anglo Boer War three young boers was was executed by English soldiers after being find guilty of derailing a train. Later thy was find not guilty by a British court and their families was compensated

Northern Cape_Novalspont
Novalspont is in the corner of Nothern Cape , Eastern Cape and the Freestate it is a very small settlement the Hotel is the only business. The owners of the Hotel claim that their bar counter of 33 meter is the longest in South Africa. The area is rich in Anglo Boer War history. In those days there was a pont over the river and most of the transport routs went through this town. One of the first business men came to this area to make comes out of tortoise shells what was not a good idea because the Boers wear hats so he started to make hats which was a great success. At Novalspont was also a big concentration camp

Richmond from Kent. Attractions around the town Anglo Boer War graves at Deelfontein ‘ Market Square Garden see the old Market Bell , Memorial Needle. Around the square are Red Gum trees Planted during 1915 bought from a nursery at Bloemfontein the original letter can be seen at the Saddle Horse Museum. The Saddle Horse Museum is the only one of its kind in South Africa and there one more in the world in the USA

Merrimam is a Station on the main Railway line between Guateng and Cape Town just south of De Aar. In the early days Hotels were build along the Railway lines for the comfort of the passengers because their was no Dining Carts on the trains. When the train stop ay a station to refill water the passangers had time to refresh. Merrimam Hotel was one of those today it is a hunting lodge belongs to Harry Sparks
Northern Cape_Victoria west
town marks the beginning of the Diamond Way lying on the main route from Cape Town to Kimberley. In 1866 diamond fever was sparked with the discovery of the gem Eureka at Hopetown and then at Kimberley. Though Victoria West has suffered a devastating flood 52 people drowned and buried in a mass grave and dustbowl drought it survived. Apollo Theatre is the last remaining art deco theatre in South Africa not only unique for its historic importance but it is also of great architectural importance. Moonlight Hill Koppie Trail runs along the Moonlight Hill and Ribbokplato to the south of Victoria West. Victoria West Museum displays on history archaeology and fossils including those of fossilized fish reminding the visitor that 200 million years ago the karoo was an inland sea.
